Webinar: Keys to a successful association event

Association events vary from a very large annual conference & exhibition to smaller educational events.

We had the honor to have a successful event professional Gijs Verbeek, currently the Head of Events at the European Association for International Education (EAIE) to come and discuss with us about association events and the keys on how to make them successful. Gijs has enormous experience on organising association events both before and during the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the EAIE, as in many other parts of our industry, they had to rethink their strategy and quickly change their event portfolio from mainly in person conferences to virtual. Instead of a 4-day annual conference & exhibition with around 6000 attendees and a large exhibition, the association organised a series of online events, trainings, conferences and exhibitions for over 10.000 people in the first year after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Gijs Verbeek was also the Executive Director for the local MPI Netherlands Chapter for over a decade. During which time one of his highlights was to be organizing the flagship event European Meetings & Events Conference (EMEC2019) which received multiple awards. The event was a true Game Changer as it was entirely designed with the different stakeholders in mind, as well as they did not have any budget and was organized entirely with a dedicated group of volunteers.
